COURSES IN GENERAL ENGLISH

Bournemouth City College provides General English courses at all levels, including Absolute beginners, Elementary, Pre-Intermediate, Intermediate, Upper Intermediate and Advanced.
All students have a test on the first day of their course to make sure they are placed in a class at the right level. Also, teachers continually monitor progress to make sure that students progress to higher levels as soon as possible.
Course duration is flexible and students can join a class on any Monday.
There are two General English courses. Our Standard Course is 20 lessons per week, each lesson is 45 minutes long, which totals 15 hours of tuition per week, while our Intensive Course is 30 lessons per week, each lesson is 45 minutes long, which totals 22.5 hours of tuition per week.
Generally, a full Standard English course is 12 weeks, after which a student should be ready to move to a higher level. Students on the Intensive Course should be able to progress to a higher level in about 8 weeks.
Course length and content is closely linked to a well-respected course book (e.g. “Headway”, “Cutting Edge” etc.) plus extra and comprehensive materials, developed by our teaching staff, to support the formal course work (e.g. computer lab activities, role play, current affairs, appropriate grammar and vocabulary games, cultural activities, class discussions etc).
All materials are designed to ensure students progress in grammar, vocabulary, reading and writing skills.

The minimum course period is 3 weeks although a longer duration is advisable. Many students choose to stay considerably longer and progress through a number of levels until they have reached the desired standard.
